The new system allows shoppers to independently scan, bag, and pay for their items using contactless cards or digital wallets, eliminating checkout queues. The technology was developed in-house by Shwapno’s technology team, with implementation support from Mastercard, Sunmi, and Eastern Bank PLC (EBL). Mastercard facilitated device integration through Sunmi, while EBL ensured secure payment solutions.
To celebrate the launch, Mastercard is offering eco-friendly shopping bags to customers who spend BDT 1,000 or more at the Gulshan-1 outlet using a Mastercard at the self-checkout kiosk.
Sabbir Hasan Nasir, Managing Director of Shwapno, said the innovation reflects Shwapno’s commitment to bringing world-class convenience to Bangladeshi shoppers. He praised the contributions of the company’s young technologists and thanked Mastercard, Sunmi, and EBL for their collaboration.
