Two additional factories in Bangladesh have obtained Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification, bringing the total to 209. The newly certified facilities, Comfit Eco Ville in Mirzapur, Tangail, and Fakir Eco Knitwears Ltd in Kayempur, Narayanganj, have both achieved platinum status with 85 points, the highest ranking in the LEED framework.
The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) reported that Bangladesh now holds 54 of the top 100 and 18 of the top 20 positions in LEED Green Factory rankings globally. BGMEA President Faruque Hassan highlighted that the country now has a total of 209 LEED Green Factories, with 79 achieving Platinum status and 116 earning Gold.
This growing number underscores the industry’s steadfast commitment to sustainability, with members consistently demonstrating leadership in adopting eco-friendly practices, from energy-efficient operations to water conservation initiatives. Hassan emphasized that this dedication is not only commendable but also essential for ensuring the long-term sustainability of the industry.
Bangladesh’s prominent position on the global map of environmentally conscious manufacturing is evident with 54 of the top 100 highest-rated LEED Green Factories worldwide. Additionally, 9 out of the top 10 and 18 out of the top 20 highest-rated LEED Green Factories are located in Bangladesh.
Hassan noted that the continued momentum in environment-friendly industrialization reflects the industry’s commitment to sustainable manufacturing practices. The global community is taking notice, with buyers expressing interest and investing in green energy infrastructure in Bangladesh. This unique initiative is laying a critical foundation in the industry, and Hassan expressed confidence that the country’s economy will continue to benefit from the efforts made by entrepreneurs in the Ready-Made Garment (RMG) industry.
