Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC has set a remarkable benchmark in the country’s agent banking sector by collecting over Tk20,000 crore in deposits, representing nearly 42% of total deposits across Bangladesh’s agent banking network.
Since launching in 2017, the bank’s agent banking services have grown rapidly and now serve more than 5.3 million customers. About half of these customers are women living in rural areas traditionally underserved by banks. Daily transactions through these outlets average over Tk1,000 crore, highlighting strong public trust and engagement.

The bank is also a leader in remittance collection, channeling Tk15,352 crore in 2024 and Tk8,984 crore in the first half of 2025. This helps families access funds safely and reduces reliance on informal channels.
Operating through 2,791 outlets in 472 upazilas, Islami Bank’s agent banking blends local outreach with digital tools like Cellfin, i-Banking, POS and QR code withdrawals, ensuring secure and convenient services.

Initiatives such as the Rural Development Scheme (RDS), which provides investment support up to Tk5 lakh, also contribute to rural economic empowerment. The bank credits its success to Shariah-compliant practices, trusted local agents, modern technology and a dedication to inclusive growth.
