Eastern Bank Limited (EBL) has reported a solo profit of Tk627 crore for the first nine months of 2025, reflecting a 20% increase compared to the same period last year. The bank’s consistent focus on asset quality, operational efficiency, and prudent growth has contributed to this strong financial performance.

According to the bank’s press release, EBL maintained a non-performing loan (NPL) ratio of just 3.07% at the end of September 2025, which is significantly lower than the industry average of 27.09% as of June. The bank also kept an excess provision of Tk144 crore beyond the required classification level to enhance its ability to withstand potential financial shocks.

EBL’s cost-to-income ratio stood at 41.17%, indicating efficient cost management across its operations. Managing Director Ali Reza Iftekhar stated that the bank’s approach remains focused on conducting business prudently within the regulatory framework.

During the first nine months of the year, EBL followed a cautious business growth strategy emphasizing investment in government securities, which carry no credit risk or provision requirements. As of September, total assets increased by Tk9,368 crore (15.2%), driven by a Tk4,505 crore (36.6%) rise in government securities and a Tk3,790 crore (9.2%) growth in loans and advances.
