Chattogram Port has reported its strongest operational and financial performance in history for FY 2024-25, achieving record container handling, higher revenue and the largest ever contribution to the national exchequer. According to the Chattogram Port Authority (CPA), container throughput rose 4% year on year to 32,96,067 TEUs, an increase of 1,27,377 TEUs from FY24, while in the 2024 calendar year container handling grew 7.42% and cargo throughput rose 3.11%. Despite political unrest, floods, transport strikes and temporary customs shutdowns, average vessel waiting time dropped to just one day with 60 to 65% berthing on arrival.

CPA’s revenue climbed 8.22% to Tk 52.28 billion, expenditure increased by 9.45% and the revenue surplus rose 7.27% to Tk 29.13 billion. The authority contributed Tk 17.65 billion to the national exchequer in FY25, the highest in its history, bringing its five year total contribution to Tk 72.03 billion. The port, which handles over 90% of Bangladesh’s import export trade and 98% of Bangladesh bound containers, is advancing key expansion projects such as the Bay Terminal, Matarbari Deep Sea Port, Laldia Container Terminal and a Free Trade Zone. CPA Chairman Rear Admiral SM Monriuzzaman credited the results to modernisation measures including automation, e-gate passes, online payment systems, new cranes and deeper drafts, positioning Chattogram as a critical hub for Bangladesh’s sustainable economic growth.
