Biman Bangladesh Airlines has reported an unaudited record profit of Tk 937 crore for FY 2024-25, the highest in its 55-year history, surpassing its previous peak profit of Tk 440 crore in FY 2021-22. The airline’s revenue stood at Tk 11,631 crore, crossing the Tk 10,000 crore mark for the second consecutive year. During the year, Biman transported 34 lakh passengers and 44,000 tonnes of cargo, recording a cabin factor of 82 percent, while January 2025 also marked the highest ticket sales month in its history.

Despite these achievements, Biman carries heavy liabilities, owing a total of Tk 8,127 crore to regulators and fuel suppliers. This includes Tk 6,327 crore to CAAB, with Tk 919 crore in original debt and Tk 5,408 crore in surcharges, VAT, and income tax, as well as Tk 1,800 crore to BPC for jet fuel. The airline currently operates a fleet of 21 aircraft (19 owned outright), consisting of 6 Boeing 787s, 4 Boeing 777-300ERs, 4 Boeing 737s, and 5 Dash-8 Q400s, serving 21 international and 7 domestic routes.

Since being converted into a public limited company in 2007, Biman has accumulated Tk 589 crore in total profit over 18 years. The FY25 success is attributed to tighter financial controls, improved resource use, and enhanced passenger services under new interim government-appointed management. Looking ahead, Biman plans to expand routes, strengthen cargo services, and push digital transformation as it aspires to become a leading South Asian airline.
