In a bold move to strengthen its AI coding capabilities, Google has secured top executives from AI code-generation startup Windsurf, alongside a $2.4 billion non-exclusive licensing deal for Windsurf’s technology. Unlike a full acquisition, Google won’t take an ownership stake; instead, it focuses on “acquihiring” key talent to drive innovation and stay competitive against rivals like OpenAI, which reportedly also pursued Windsurf.
