The United States expressed eagerness to collaborate with Bangladesh for economic investment in the next 50 years and beyond. A US delegation, including Eileen Laubacher from the US National Security Council, Michael Schiffer from USAID, and Afreen Akhter from the US Department of State, met with Salman F Rahman, Private Industry and Investment Adviser to PM Sheikh Hasina, during their three-day visit.
With a history of over 50 years of partnership, the US has contributed over $8 billion to address various issues in Bangladesh, ranging from public health and education to energy, environment, and food security. Being one of the largest investors and the largest single-country export market for Bangladesh, the US aims to enhance economic ties further.
The US Embassy in Dhaka emphasized the readiness of the United States to assist Bangladesh in creating a business-friendly environment that attracts more American investment. Discussions between the delegation and local economic experts covered a range of topics impacting bilateral trade relationships.
The visit aimed to strengthen diplomatic ties, address challenges, and promote a shared vision for mutual interests in the Indo-Pacific region. Meetings with Foreign Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud, Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen, civil society representatives, labor leaders, youth activists, and media professionals focused on areas such as economic development, security, refugees, climate, labor, and trade, reinforcing Bangladesh’s importance as a key partner in the Indo-Pacific region.
